September 10,2013 is a big day for Apple as the company launched 2 of its iPhones. The newly released iPhone 5s and 5c are company’s new products.
The iPhone 5s where ‘s’ according to Apple stands for ‘speed’ is the new flagship mobile. It features state of the art technologies, which set new standards in the mobile industry and are far ahead of their time. The rumored fingerprint reader is also one of the many new innovations found on this smartphone.
Coming to the outside of the phone its dimensions are nearly same as the iPhone 5 with a thin profile of 7.6 mm and an extremely low weight of 112g. Its outside is constructed from polished aluminum and glass along with saffire crystal to protect the home button and the camera lens. Apple decided to stick with the 4- inch Retina display with 1136×640 resolution giving it 326 ppi. It is available in 3 colors, which are gold, silver, and space grey.
The fingerprint reader is built into the home button allowing users to unlock their phone using their finger. It can also be used to make purchases in iTunes. So except for the new colors and slight changes the iPhone 5s pretty much resembles the iPhone 5.
Coming to the inside, this is where the real difference comes in. It is the first smartphone in the world to run on a 64-bit processor and operating system. The iPhone 5s is powered by a 64-bit Apple A7 processor, which makes it twice as fast as the iPhone 5 rather then the rumored 31% faster. It also has a ‘coprocessor’ called the M7, which controls all the sensors of the phone. Its advanced GPU allow 45% more graphics memory then the previous iPhone allowing for graphics, which were once possible on computers only.
Coming to the camera Apple continues with the 8MP iSight camera but upgraded the sensors to capture more light giving it superior low light performance. The sensor has an aperture of f/2.2 and it capable of shooting 1080p HD video @ 30 frames per second. The flash on the 5s is a new comer and is called TrueTone. It features a dual LED flash with the two LED at separate temperatures giving it 1000 different light combination for the right tone of the image. Another new feature is the slow motion video in which 720p HD video is shot @ 120 fps. The front can is 1.2 MP capable of shooting 1280×960 resolution pictures and recording 720p HD video. The battery is slightly bigger then its precursor giving it 10 hours of 3G talk time, 40 hours of music playback and 250 hours standby time which is not bad given its slim profile.
Coming to the iPhone 5c here ‘c’ according to Apple means ‘color’ rather then the rumored ‘cheap’ Even though it is a bit cheaper the 5s it still is an iPhone. It features a plastic body, which is built around a steel frame which doubles up as an antenna. It is slightly thicker then the 5s at 8.9mm. It is available in 5 colors, which are white, pink, and yellow, blue, green.
Its sports the same 4-inch Retina display but lacks the integrated fingerprint reader. It is powered by an Apple A6 processor. The camera is also 8MP but with a smaller sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Remaining feature remain pretty much unchanged.
The newly released iOS 7 is specifically designed to work with 64-bit A7 processor giving it faster response and buttery smooth graphics transitions.
The iPhones will be avalible from September 20 in USA, Australia, China, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and UK.
Free iOS 7 update will be freely available after 18 September for iPhone 4 or later devices.
Even though these iPhones may be inferior to its contemporary smartphones powered by Android in terms of screen size and camera resolution and processor speed these are still premium smartphones brought to you by Apple Inc.
It may be available in India by the middle of November.
Pricing is as follows:
iPhone 5s 16GB : 50,000 INR (approximate). iPhone 5c 16GB: 35,000 INR (approximate).
